A search of the parishes of Westcote Barton (St Edward the Confessor) and Steeple Barton (St Mary the Virgin) both in Oxon, may throw up useful information. The Barton History Group (1996) Might be able to help - sorry, don't know contact.. My interest is in Leics & Northants.
Alan Buswell.

Hi Carol, Thank you so so much for taking the time to look at this for me. Glad to hear that you had success with your family too. I think this is just the vicar mis-writing the name, as you say. I have had this quite a few times with my other lines and i have already got a few variations of Buswell. If you do get the time to have a look at the original register then i would really appreciate this but dont go out of your way to do so, i think this what you have found is the right man. I am so happy as well that it gave the parents names with mums maiden name, i dont have many of thoses in the older registers. Thank you also for taking the time to look for a marriage of the parents and any baptisms. Maybe, the parents went on to Wootton and thats why he married a local girl there......something to keep thinking about. Thank you so much again for this. Kind Regards, Claire xx

Hi Claire Here I am just back from another day at ORO! Should have been out in my garden on a day like this but as I was already booked in to go, like a martyr I went! Did have some successes with my father's side of the family which was rewarding. Back to your bap request. There is a bap in Headington in 1790 for a James Bussell - now this comes from a transcript and there may well be a transcription error here - I would need to look at the original register which they have at ORO and I can request it on my next visit if you'd like me to. What's interesting is that James had two siblings who were also baptised in Headington St Andrew and their surname is also given as Bussell. Given the dates of these it wouldn't surprise me to find that this was the spelling used by the vicar - if you try saying Buswell quickly it could sound like Bussell. Anyway here they are: 25/12/1790 James Bussell s/o James and Ann nee Harris 13/05/1792 Ann Bussell d/o James and Ann nee Harris 29/10/1797 bn 23/10/1797 Richard Bussell s/o James and Ann nee Harris I could find no more children for James and Ann nor could I find a marriage for them in Headington ditto any burials. Hope this helps and please let me know if you'd like me to check the original record for you. Happy hunting! Carol

Hello Carol, That is a fantastic offer which is much appreciated as I still dont have this baptism. I am sorry that I do not know who is parents are. He married in Wootton in 1810 to Silence Stroud and stayed there every since. From all census and death info, he was born in Headington around 1790. It just says Headington and not the other place you mentioned. I hope this makes sense. Let me know if you need any more info. Kind Regards, Claire x

Hello Claire I visit Oxford Record Office once a fortnight so if you're still looking for this bap please let me know. If he was born in Headington itself I should be able to find it - as baps for Headington St Andrew start from 1681 but if he was born in Headington Quarry then I won't find it - baps there start in 1849. Do you have any idea who his parents were? Regards Carol

I am hoping to search for a baptism around 1790 of James Buswell. He was born in Headington near Oxfordshire and went on to marry in Wootton to Silence Stroud. I have tried IGI but only one James in wrong area and wrong year. Would anyone be able to help or point me in the right direction on who to contact. Many Thanks, Claire x
