Lou your not on your own I have been searching for their marriage without any luck, maybe they never tied the knot? I have also been looking for his first wifes death but she could have died anytime between 1862-1878. I am thinking she may have died early in their marriage because they had no children. On the 1871 census for James Aspin what is his marital status, they have crossed out married & written something else can you make it out? Georgina.

thats what i wondered but if he married eliza in 62 and didnt have sarah ann til 75, it means he has remarried. a marriage then which i cant trace!

Georgina Report 4 May 2006 18:13

Lou I was wondering if Sarah Ann was Elizabeth Smith's child before she married James Aspden/Aspin. There are 2 births that would fit.... Births Jun 1875 SMITH Sarah Ann Burnley 8e 213 Births Sep 1875 Smith Sarah Ann Burnley 8e 214 Georgina.

oh and according to all census' sarah ann is born burnley like james but the 2 sons were born blkbn. do you think then that eliz. aspen on the 81 census is eliza collins or elizabeth smith as the birth certificate of john says. lou

hiya thats them in 1881. its james father james that is is a block printer according to the marriage certificte. i have a birth certificate for a james aspin right place, right year father is james and he is a calico printer. so im wondering if he was aspin but it changed to aspden and back again. especially as i cant find a birth for james aspden although on the 51 census there is a family without husband of aspdens and there is a james on there born burnley abt 43. in which case its a different family. lou

as some of you are aware ive been having trouble with my aspins for a while. after someone suggested that my james aspin on the census may well have been james aspden in marriage..... well it looks likely! just received the marriage certificate of james aspden and eliza collins and what do you know its the same address as my james aspin on the census for 1861. father james aspden block printer. so this looks like this is my great great grandfathers marriage. so some one tell me why the birth certificate of son john says mother formerly smith and not collins and brothers birth cert says mother formerly hirst? now im confussed again! lou
