Find Ancestors

Hi could somebody please look up Robert Paling b.abt 1847 Hull. He was ?Head living at WhitbyYorkshire on 1881 census (future wife next door). I'm looking for him on 1901, 1871 and previous census plus addresss and occupations if possible. I am also trying to find out when he married Jane Readman. I have looked on Ancestry (but not beta yet - trying to narrow date down first), IGI and Freebmd. Any help would be appreciated Regards Elaine

Thankyou Jeanette and Helen, I'm wondering if Robert and Jane Readman never married - IGI say they are (Charles Readman's B. 1872 Whitby) mother and father. 1891 says they are married - so 1901 would be helpful. Regards Elaine

Robert was in Durham in 1871. The question is, did he come back to Hull in time to be the father of Charles c.1872? Also, checking 1881, Charles and Jane were in same house, not next-door to each other and besides Charles aged 9 there's also a 12 year old daughter Isabella Readman. Hmmm! Good point Helen. Stranton is in Hartlepool - maybe 50 mile from Whitby. This is Jane in 1871 (I think unmarried with her mother) don't know her marital status though. Yes, unmarried in 1871. Is it Charles who is your ancestor? I don't think Robert Paling was his Dad but then each of Jane's children may have different fathers (and I thought that only happened these days!) Go for the birth certs. but don't expect too much, Dad's name will probably be blank.

Yes Helen, Charles is my GGF. I need to order some certs now to help piece things together. Can you see Jane at all on 1901? I have found 2 births a year apart but same area for Charles. I'll ring Reg Office to see if they can help find correct one. Thanks ever so much for your help Helen, it helps to have someone else to look at the bigger picture.
