I have just told my husband the names and he said he vaugely remembers Roland as he was very ill. He knew there was a Irene and a Jack and now you have said Roy he beleives that sounds familier too. He said a few days ago the name Frank rang a bell but just could not be sure. So thats fantastic news. All sounds about right to us. I tried the ansestry site on 14day trial but just cant get the hang of it at all. Not sure what I was doing wrong. Many Thanks Zoe

Zoe Got a feeling you're going to have to order certs. The births are registered at Blackburn, would be quicker to go Blackburn register office and order them. Let me know if you need any help. (I'm approx 5-10mins away from office so will help if you want.)

Hi Zoe Had a quick look at births as well for Edith. Would think Blackburn one looks the favourite.

Hi Zoe, The first thing I would do is send for Alan's birth certificate as you already have the reference. This will give both parents' full names. I would also start to trawl back from 1949 to find Tomlinson/Gardner births and when you get to about 6/7 of the siblings, you can start trawling back for marriages. It is a long haul but the only way. Kate

I have been trailing through the marriage details on BMD and as I only know the surname is TOMLINSON I am clueless where to start. There are so many females TOMLINSONS born in BLACKBURN around the 1900 -1910 approx. Here is why I am looking:- I cannot find any links or clues to my Husbands family name GARDNER. His Father was Alan Gardner born Oct 1949 ( 10B 492) married to Jean BOLTON. Alan is the youngest of approx 7 brothers and a sister from the BLACKBURN area in Lancashire. Alan's sister was Irene we think and one of the brothers was Jack. They were all older than Alan who was born with a gap of approx 20yrs since the last sibling. Alans Mothers maiden name was TOMLINSON and that is as much as we know. It is likely my husband has cousins alive that dont know about him and he doesnt know about them. If you think you can help please let me know. Many Thanks Zoe
