Got a reply from both Exeter and Plymouth but unfortunately they could only tell me who the householder was and not everyone who was in the houses. So really not much help. Still never mind I have a very kind person on here helping me at the moment I don't know how I am ever going to thank Janice enough. Everyone else on here is very kind and helpful as well and always willing to help. Regards to everyone Christine

Thanks Kate someone told me to get in touch with the reference library for the area which I have done by email and am waiting for a reply. I cannot get to the offices myself as I live in Yorkshire. Hopefully I will get a reply. Christine

Christine, sorry for delay in replying, the electoral roll would be available to look up at the records office for the area you want, and perhaps the main library there too, but unfortunately it will not be online. Kate.

Thank you all for your help. I can't believe how difficult it is to find any information on this family. I can't wait until I start on my Mother's Father's side that should be very interesting seeing his name was Frederick Smith and I am only assuming he came from Warwickshire. So get ready for more cries for help !!!!!!! Thank you all Christine

Don't discount middle names. My Grandad always thought his name was Wilfred Richard. That's on his marriage certificate. It was only when he got a copy of his birth certificate when he retired that he discovered he was just Wilfred. Helen

Thanks Kath that is definately something to look into and possibly get certificate. Kate how do I get to look at electoral register? can I do it on the net? because it might be a good idea to look at both addresses on the marriage certificates. Christine

Kate Report 11 May 2006 10:16

Have you tried looking at the electoral roll for the address given on her 1911 marriage certificate to see if her father is listed there, and possibly other relatives? Kate.

Hi Kate The Witnesses on the Wedding certificates are 1st Wedding: L. Anstead, and H. F Anstead 2nd Wedding: Susan Tucker, and Samuel North Which does not really help but had a thought that Susan Tucker could possibly be Sarah's sister who had married??? Thanks for trying to help Christine

Kate

Kate Report 11 May 2006 09:42

Christine, what were the names of the witnesses on the two marriage certificates? Kate.

Thank you to you all for trying to help. I just don't know what to do now to solve this. I mean the differences between the 1901 and 1891 census are Sarah has a middle initial on 1891. According to her marriage certificates and her death certificate her name was just Sarah but I do believe most if not all her children had 2 names. !!!! Another difference is the Wife: In 1891 its SUSAN and in 1901 its SARAH. I just don't know what else I can do. I don't want to give up I feel I need to find out about my Family. Christine (Getting Desperate)

Firstly Janice I am looking for my Gran Sarah Jeffery Born c1887 and her family. Georgina I do not know for sure where she was born I am just assuming so as bothe her marriages were in devon and from 1901 census but I am not possitive that that is even her family. The only things I know for certain is her Father was called Thomas and that she had a Brother called Tom and that she was born 1888 but I know that that date on some records could be a year or two out. Thank you both for trying to help I have been trying to find information on this for 2 years. Christine

Christine

Christine Report 10 May 2006 23:26

Hi Georgina I have seen this entry before and for a while thought it was right but it gives my Grandmother with a middle name which I know she did not have and the date of birth is too far out as I have been told by relatives that she was born 1888 but no one knows the full date. So I discarded this as not being right but I don't know for sure. It has got me wondering now though because the Wifes name is different if this was Thomas's first marriage, but then there is Sarah's name. Help it is getting worse. I am going to go crazy with my family Christine (very confused)
