Hi Mararet, all the children were born on Gateshead, so I think they would have been there in 71 and 81, its the spelling that will have been misstranscribed that has made all census and parish records so hard to find. Thanks for trying it is good of you to take the time. Best wishes Kathy

Hi, The 1871 record that says HARRIETT do you think it could be a mistranscribed/misheard BARNETTA? Not a million miles away from one another are they? I've searched by just first names, years etc, and nothing more obvious coming up. Maybe worth asking for a Scotland lookup to see if they went to live with her parents or other family or indeed maybe went back to Ireland for a while. M

Hi Everyone, thanks for trying on this one it has not been an easy line to follow. Hugh was born in Gateshead Durham in 1838, His parents were John and Ann Malloy and they came from Ireland so they are a dead end. He married Barnetta in 1858. He died in 1890, his wife Barnetta died in 1887. They had the following children. MARY ALEXANDER MALOY b1861, (my great grandmother) WILLIAM SCOTT MOLLAY b1863 Hugh Mulloy b1875 William John Maloy b1878, died 1879. William John Maloyb1880 These are all the children I have found so far. As you can see Barnetta died in 1887, so I thought she must have been still with Hugh, but I cant find them on any census records 1871 or 1881. I have looked at the possibility that has been posted about him having another wife but it looks unlikely. If anyone has any thoughts I would like to hear from you. One other thing the name Malloy has been spelt several different ways over census and parish records. Thanks for trying Kathy

It would be worth contacting the registry office and asking them to verify age, they are quite helpful. Not sure which office this would be but I had very quick response from Hartelpool area recently. I think you can also check these on their own web sites, so could cross ref the age to see if these have been transcribed differently.
