There are lots of mistakes on the census returns. Since someone has found a marriage for Robert Shield and Annie Brooks, and George's middle name in the birth index is Brooks, I'd say they are definitely his parents. Only way to be absolutely sure is to send for his birth certificate. Whickham, where George S. Shield, age 3 days is living is very close to Gateshead. Kath. x

Looks like Robert and Ann are definitely family, as the Shield business was shovel making.

If Robert and Ann are the parents, that means there were more than two brothers,. I believe these are the same family but definitely only two brothers and George's middle name is definitely Brooke or Brookes

Definitely him George Brooke Shield, I Know his Father is called Robert but cannot find his Mothers name, I also know he had a brother Milton so that is the one also. Thank you everyone - definitely on the right track.

Are you sure the middle name is Brooke? I've found a 3 day old George S. Shield in Wickham, Co. Durham with a father called Robert and mother called Ann. He has an older brother called Robert S. Shield. Can't find a Milton Shield anywhere. Kath. x
