Please some assistance, as I have come to a dead end on this one. Joseph Tennyson, according to 1901 census, born c1861 in Manchester. Married Maud Emily Leach Lynch 8.11.1891 in Islington London. Children Joseph Leach Tennyson 10.3.1894 Augustus Walter Tennyson 17.2.1895 Emily Minnie C Tennyson c 1896 Leslie Bert Tennyson 13.3.1901 Have located marriage certificate (8 Nov 1891) that shows father as Joseph Tennyson deceased. No details of any of these Tennysons in any other earlier census returns. Need to locate both Joseph Tennyson and the rest of the family. Can anyone help please. Thanks Steve |

Steve Do you have any witnesses to the marriage that could possibly be family? Can't see anything on the Lancashirebmd or freebmd which seem relevant. Jenny |

Occupations: Joseph T born 1861 : Comedian (Linked to the Water Rats, and worked with Joseph O'Gorman on the stage as a double act) Joseph T , father: Barber (presume he was born around 1835/1840 ish). Was deceased in 1891 at time of marriage. Possibly Irish connection? Witnesses: Joseph O'Gorman (part of comedy double act), and Emily Moosedale. |

Address on marriage certificate was 18 & 20 Pitfield Street, Hoxton,London. Father in law (Augustus Leopold Leach Lynch) was a Theatrical Proprieter and ran the Variety Theatre which was at the above address. Don't think Tennyson was a stage name, as his father was also Joseph Tennyson. Odd that none of them appear on any of the census returns until 1901. |

Maureen No haven't located the information from 1891 before. Managed to find them as Lynch in 1871, they appear to have become Leach in 1891 and possibly Leach Lynch? Very confusing. Did you track using the address? Any track in 1881? Thanks for the info so far!!...Great! Steve |

Any suggestions on how to track down the Tennysons in the missing census returns? Need to track down births, marriages and deaths. Any trace of any Tennyson born in Manchester around the 1855 - 1865. This would hopefully cover Joseph and/or any other siblings. Anyone help further please? |
