Hi Jo Where have you looked so far? Mandy :)

Hi Mandy I looked on the Ancestry website on the BMD index but couldn't find anything but just thought I might need another pair of eyes and to be truthful I am not sure how to do a 'wildcard' search just in case the spelling is wrong on the index?!?!?!? I'm a bit useless when it comes to IT haha Jo ;-(

Hi Jo I'm no expert at the wildcard searching, but I'll be a second pair of eyes for you and have a scout round. Mandy :)

This is the only one i could find, Arthur Bielby Year of Registration: 1868 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun District: Beverley (1837-1937) County: East Riding Of Yorkshire Volume: 9d Page: 97 I did search through the actuall images from 1860 to 1864 and there are lots of Bielby's registered in that part of yorkshire so i find it hard to believe that he would not be registered, I would try the local registry office as some times names are missed of the GRO index also could his age be wrong on the 1891 census? This one has certainly got me stumped. I've done searches on Bielby and Bealby, and there do seem to be quite a few in the area, but not Arthur. I've also tried looking for his marriage, but no luck there either. Hopefully someone more experienced with searching will be able to find him. Mandy :)

Hi Roy Thanks for looking for me. I checked the 1901 census too and he is listed as age 39 which suggests the 1862 (abt) is correct. So I will have to try another course of action as you suggest. Thanks again. Jo

Could It have been his middle name? I had one like this-every other census he went from his first bname to his middle name and back to his first name again-and got married using both-then the penny dropped!

Joanne Report 27 May 2006 19:39

Hi Mandy I think I found his marriage in 1883 Q4, I know he married a lady called Emma Collinson and it looks like he is listed as Beal in the marriage index! More confusion haha! Jo Hi Spike (?) Thanks for that suggestion that will is a useful tip for my research and believe me I need all the help I can get. Thanks Jo

Hi Spike Was that the 1871 census? I think I will search on Beelby then, it does seem to have been spelt in various ways! Thanks for all the help it is much appreciated Jo

No it wasn't on a census. It was on Ancestry and I put in Arthur Bielby no place and 1865 + or - 10 I think. just on the births index just keep playing around with place names and dtaes. Sometimes the less info you put in it';ll ping up!
