Hi, The thing is I have a person I'm looking for - ALBERT VICTOR BAXTER born approx 1910 and married approx 1936, probably Guildford / Godalming area. All I have is an army number on his sons birth certificate B/14571564. Does anyone know if there is an Army search or equivalent that I can look for more info. I can't find his birth or marriage (not looked for death) registrations so don't where to look now. Any help would be great, Thanks Emily. |

Does the cert give his rank or indication of regiment? |

Are you sure of the birthplace and year? There is this in Ipswich but you've probably seen that already? Albert Victor Baxter 1902 Apr-May-Jun Ipswich Do you know the name of the woman he married and where that was likely to be, I'll have a look for you. |

Royal Artillery? It's possible that he was born in Scotland (Baxter is Scottish surname) or elsewhere, or not born in 1910. What is the wife's name? |

Also, are you aware of any siblings he had? I've looked through the marriage index images for 1937, 1936, 1935 and 1934 and nothing yet. I'll have another look in a minute. |

Hi. It's driving me mad, I can't find any site that lets me put in the 8 figure number and get details. Apparently, the 8 fig number was while he was 'commissioned'. If he turned to an officer, then it would be a 6 fig number. Although in 1943 it was 8 digits anyway. Please help me save my sanity!! Emily. |

No idea if he had siblings. He's my father-in-laws dad, but he doesn't remember having any Aunts or Uncles. |

She was born on 08/10/1910 and her parents were married 1910 1st quart 2a 187 in Guildford. I assumed they didn't move between this time as her children still live in the Guildford / Godalming area. Emily |

I don't think that you would be able to look the army number up anywhere online because his records would be too recent, but you or your husband or father-in-law may be able to order his records from the Ministry of Defence - you have to pay and you have to wait quite a while for them to arrive. Kate. |

You have to be a relative of the deceased or get their permission to apply for his army records - there's a form to fill in. I found them very helpful when I contacted them. good luck |
