Hi hope some one can help me on this i am looking for Mary King b1854 Oakwood Lancashire (Daughter) , Alice McCarey b 1838 Blackowin Lancashire (wife,) Mary j McCarey 1856 Oakwood Lancashire ( Daughter).There should be a Joseph McCarey with them possible mis spell on McCarey -- McCarry. Hi Kath Thanks for trying , i have looked and looked they are there on 1871 census in kearsley lancashire under Name McCarey . When Alice Married Joseph in 1855 it is spelt McCarry and Mary king is her daughter. Tracy

Image is what is transcribed as far as I can see. Joseph is a coal miner and Alice a Laundress. I'm still looking but nothing else so far ... Perhaps you need to obtain one of the children's birth certs, and to find Alice's maiden name. If King was a married name or if she just had Mary out of Wedlock. This would help trace her back further, which might give more consistency to birthplace etc.

Hi Mags Thanks for your help im not having much luck , i think i have found alice Mcarey on 1881 census living in Blackburn but has gone back to the name of King and done the same with her children on her daughter Sarah Alice McCarry 1892 marraige cert her father is deceased.

If she's gone back to the name of King, perhaps she never married him, and just used his name whilst they were together? Could also be he went off and left them? Might be why she is still shown as being married, but listed as Head in 71? Do you know Josephs occupation?

Mary J and Margaret are factory operatives. Fred is a General Labourer.

Maybe he was a travelling salesman/manufacturer, which could explain why they've moved such a lot.

Well, I've tried all the children, and alice with no surname, and various options born lancs, and I just can't find anything else remotely right. Since they moved around a lot, it may be they just were not recorded on the night of the census, or they are lodging elsewhere, and they surname has been ditto'd with the family they were staying with. I think I'd go for getting a birth cert for one of the children, just to see if you can get more info on Alice or Joseph that way. Good luck, and really sorry I can't help more. It's very annoying! I've tried looking on IGI and haven't found any registrations on there yet either. Did you ever find a marriage between Alice & Joseph? Do you know who Alice's parents were yet? Mags.x
