Very strange indeed,,,found some of the Gard children in 1861 and 71 but to make things complicated they are not with parents... Harriet DAVERSON goes on to marry and have the details for that... was really hoping to find the GARD childrens parents. I found a marriage between Mary Ann DAVERSON and John GARD 1840 Thanet and thought they might be the parents, but can't find them on ANY Census Oh well I guess this one doesn't get resolved. Thank you all so much for your help... Jennifer |

Have found this Gard as a visitor. Wonder if he could be the missing head of household, although he is described as unmarried (maybe it should be widower??) >>>John Gard abt 1803 Deal, Kent, England Visitor Deal Kent Edward Trott abt 1833 Deal, Kent, England Son Deal Kent Louisa A Trott abt 1831 Deal, Kent, England Daughter Deal Kent Mary Trott abt 1799 Deal, Kent, England Wife Deal Kent Thomas Trott abt 1798 Deal, Kent, England Head Deal Kent Kath. x |

John D Gard is described as Son of Head of Family in the 'Occupation' column........bizarre! Harriet is 'sister in law' and George is her son, but Mary Ann is step-daughter. So presumably a Mr Gard (somewhere) married a woman with the name Deverson, who had a daughter at the time!! I don't know about a cuppa..........I think a drink is called for. Reg |

Roger Dyason abt 1804 Ramsgate, Kent, England Head Susannah Dyason abt 1835 Ramsgate, Kent, Daughter Jane Dyason abt 1839 Ramsgate, Kent, Daughter Julia Roger Dyason abt 1842 Ramsgate, Kent, England Son Julia Dyason abt 1844 Ramsgate, Kent, Daughter Roger is widowed, so perhaps his sister-in-law was staying a couple of doors down to help out with the children? Of course if she was sister to Roger's dead wife that would explain why they don't have the same surname, though not sure where the Gard children fit into all this. nell |

Harriet appears to be the only adult in the household, but it seems that the actual head of household has the surname Gard ? as the children with this name are described as 'son of head of house'. It's a very strange one!! Kath. x |

This is very strange but, Could it be that the head of house was not their the night of the census? Roy |

It says that John D is the son of the head of the family, which implies that maybe the Head was absent for the census? Maybe Harriet was babysitting? |

Ooeer. It's a mystery. At the bottom of one page it has Harriet seemingly in the head of household position but described as sister-in-law. The house immediately above her is described as unoccupied. I'm wondering if she is connected to Roger Dyerson who is in the house before that. Perhaps Deverson and Dyerson are the same surname but one is a mangled version. Have you got these folk in 1841 or 1861 to compare? nell |
