I am looking for info on the following family in Rotherfield, Sussex. There seems to be a mistranscription in Free BMD as although both Frederick and Mary were married in the same quarter at Uckfield Reg Dist (Actually at Rotherfield, Sussex) they are on different page numbers in the register 835.855. Another anomaly is that there is only one Mary Card living in Rotherfield in the 1851 Census and she is a 12 year old scholar.

I can't believe how quick and how helpful members are on here. Thank you Jess, it confirms that Frederick did marry Mary and not one of the three females on his BMD page. However you have opened me a new can of worms because I see that Mary had been married before and had at least one child Ann. Neither of them are on the 1851 census.

I only have the index to the 1851, but it shows 4 Ann Cards. A 19 year old unmarried servant cook with the Moyce family. An unmarried 20 year old general servant of the Marchant's and a 42 year old wife with a 20 year old daughter an unmarried general servant of the same name who worked for the Wilson's.

Marie - sorry but I would disagree. I think Mary´s reference looks like 833, or maybe 835 !! Frederick 855.

Grampa Jim, If your are trying to trace the Allcorn family from Rotherfield then there is quite a bit of information on the British Isles Vital Records Index - dating back to the 1500´s!! If you want to send me your email address I will quite happily forward it to you.

Hi Elaine, Actually, thanks to a distant cousin I have the Alchorne family back to about 1475. At the moment I am going through it and checking for accuracy. It was while I was checking on the marriage of Frederick and Mary that I came across this query.

Thanks everybody, At least I can apply for the marriage cert if I need to. That will tell me something about Mary. Jim
