Hi Reg, The only info about the dad is that his name was Thomas Frederick Styles... Thanks about it... I feel like i'm going round in circles all the time, quite frustrating when everyone seems to locate thier ancestors, and I can even locate my grandads parents....arghh! sorry rant over now! lol. What info is on the birth cert about the father? Reg

Hi Reg. I am looking at both Styles and Staveley. The reason for this is my grandfather was registered Styles, but always used the surname Staveley until he died in 2004. I am not sure if Mr Styles and Annie actually got married so thought best to checkout both surnames just in case..or if he is in fact my grandfathers real dad!? Also to complicate the matter, my gran says at some time in the 1950's approx, a man came down came down from london to stay with them for a while, (supposedly my grandfathers dad!) but he was using the name Thomas Frederick Johnson Staveley. Not sure where the Johnson came from or why if this is mr Styles, he changed his name! This problem has me stumped now for nearly as year as I cannot find any other info regarding my grandfathers parents. Jane

If there is only one former name on the birth cert, the assumption must be that it was her maiden name....if she had been married previously, the normal thing would be for both previous names to be recorded. Unless, of course, she was telling porkies! Reg

If the birth cert was for Styles, why are you checking a death under the name of Staveley/Stavely? Shouldn't you be looking for the death of a woman named Styles? Unless she married again.............in which case, who knows what her name might be. Reg

yes, thats why i was thinking my Annie is younger than this... Oh well, back to the BMD to trawl though more records...for any possible glimmer of hope. Jane

cant find family in 1901 if she died in 1940 aged 53 and who ever gave info was right she would have been born 1887 but seems a bit old to have died while pregnant though jeanette

I have a feeling now though that my Annie, is going to be younger than this Annie J, who dies in 1940. Jane

Hi This could be her, but I have a lot of cross referencing to do, as I know very little at present about my grandfather family. A very elusive lot.... I'm not even sure if his had used his real name!? If on the birth cert it says formally staveley, does this mean this was her maiden name or could she have been married before? Just looking at all possible options... Is there anyway without obtaining the death cert I could find out how she died? As far as I am aware Annie died when she fell the stairs while pregnant! jane

Good Morning, I would like to apologise for not getting back to anyone yesterday, but I was called away unexpectedly. I am trying to locate my grandfathers mother. On his birth certificate it advises her name was Annie Styles formally Staveley. He was born 10/09/1920 Bermondsey, 21 Sands Rents if an address search can be done? I hope she would have married a Thomas Styles although I have no idea if this actually ever happened or just whether they said they were married when registering the birth of my grandfather. I dont really know much more on this lady, so any info would be greatly appreciated. Once again, I would like to thank all those who can help or offer any solutions. Jane

She was aged 53 at death...not that it helps, as we don't know what info is sought.............or any other details Reg

Born where? born when? was Staveley her married name? what was he maiden name? who was she married to? did she have children?
