Find Ancestors

Just a thought but the only thing I haven´t done is search the complete marriage index to see if I can find the marriage for William Edwards and Mary Ann Smith. You can do this on Ancestry http://www.ancestry(.)co(.)uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx its free to search although you will have to register with Ancestry first. you need to search the complete images, searching quarter by quarter, year by year.

Think I will leave it there - hope you can follow my logic !! Shame I can´t see a suitable marriage for William Edwards and Mary Ann Smith.

Just found this one - looks more likely than the Ada Bond I came up with earlier Marriages Sep 1878 EDWARDS William Kingsclere 2c 417 Milsom Ada Alice Kingsclere 2c 417 and fits in with the date of death of William´s first wife - just !!!! They didn´t hang around in those days !! Kingsclere in just south east of Newbury

We still need the marriage certificate of William Edwards and Mary Ann Smith to give fathers names and occupations! -- but on this 1841census George is listed as a boat builder - -- so he could have later moved down to Gosport where there would have been a large boat building industry - and then Sarah Ann went there to get married!! Will see if I can find George and wife in 1851 and 1861 census to see where the are.

This could be Mary in 1851 Mary Ann Smith abt 1832 Newbury, Berkshire, England Cousin Newbury Berkshire George Farr abt 1796 Whitchurch, Hampshire, England Head Newbury Berkshire note the Farr surname - used as a middle name for Charlie. Also we have a Hampshire connection here ??

This is the only one I can find on free BMD - but I don´t think its the right one - there doesn´t seem to be any link to Alverstoke, Hampshire (which is near Gosport on the south coast) Marriages Sep 1855 Edwards William Alverstoke 2b 653 Smith Mary Ann Alverstoke 2b 653 Census info gives Mary´s place of birth as Newbury, both probably living there prior to marriage, so would expect marriage to have taken place in that area not on south coast near Gosport

Might be worth just keeping this one on file - found in the 1871 an Ada who was born in Woodhay but living in Newbury Ada Bond abt 1852 East Woodhay, Hampshire, England Servant Newbury Berkshire Just checked - East Woodhay is just south west of Newbury so I suppose its a possible - just which I could find some sort of marriage between Ada Alice and William Edwards!

At the time of Charlie's birth registration in 1860 it says they were living at 75 Bartholomew St, Newbury and in the 1881 Census they were at 100 Bartholomew St. I am guessing that Mary Ann may have died as Ada Edwards would have only been 12 if she was his mother, not impossible I know but unlikely given the mothers name on the birth cert. Any info you can come up with for any of the family, including who Williams parents were, I would be very grateful for as this has been the hardest twig of my tree to unravel so far.
