Find Ancestors

Thanks for all the help...... still cant find James though on the 1861 census on Ancestry.... I have almost all the data looking for except the name of the house if there is one on the original document..... anyone able to help?

I've found the name thing happen in lots of my lines I just assumed Davies wasn't that complicated so it would be easy enough to spell right! No I don't have any christening details yet but I know the area has online parish clerks who are able to help with getting the details.... The name triggered something I remeber from previous work I did (computer broke down & lost all the work) she was called Barriball... now on my next search... Just checked IGI -- there are christenings for DAVY and DAVY in Werrington and St Giles around 1750. Files don't go much above 1800 so would need local check to get more. Jim

It's certainly possible. If people could not write, the form would be filled in by the enumerator based on what he heard. This would have been with local accent!!! My own family have 4 different spellings in 4 consecutive censuses. Proves what an ignorant lot I came from!! I guess that if you cant find Mr Davy or Mr Davey in 1881 and following, it would strengthen the argument. Do you have any chrsitening info? Jim

Ok so we have Joanna Colwill as John Davies 2nd wife.... my belief is that James was his son..... even with this information still can't track James on the 1871 & 1861 census. John for ref was born approx 1826. Werrington, Devon

Another twist? In 1871, Joanna is a widow. William Clarke is her brother. Jim

On the censuses where he appears, what does he give as his birthplace? reg

Hi there I have been searching censuss for my gg grandfather James Thomas Davies. I have had luck in finding him on 81,91 &1901 but can't seem to find him on the 1861 & 71 census. His name is James Thomas Davies (on other census found as James Davies) born approx 1860. He lived St Giles on the Heath / Werrington this can come under both Devon & Cornwall for the census (I have checked both) I believe his mother & father were John & Joanna Any help in finding him is appreciated *** For update please see my last message***
