There is just a bit of a squiggle after the H which I know is a Y, as I have a Robert William Henry in my husband's tree and he is often shortened to Robt. Wm. Hy. and is written in much the same way as the Hy in your family. Kath. x |

Have just looked at births on Ancestry and I think Arthur's middle initial is V and not I. Here is the birth reference:- Arthur V. Pratt Sept. qtr. 1897, Darlington, 10a, 36. It's the only Arthur Pratt birth registered in Darlington at the right time. Kath. x |

The 1901 census for the children says:- Jos Wm - which is the same Joseph William on the 1881 census. Ed Hy - which is Edward Henry Arthur (then an initial which is transcribed as an I but I'm not sure what it is) Kath. x |

Sam I don't think anyone can help you unless you give us the names of the couple, their year and place of birth and where you found them living on one of the census returns. That way we can see if you have the same couple with extra children or if you have mixed up two families. Kath. x |

i dont have a james william i have a joseph william. i.m just woundering if i.ve got confused so where down the line.i have a couple having 5 kids between 1874 and 1880 then i find them in 1901 having 3 more kids 2 been ed h and jas wm.the child that is born in 1880 is a joseph william jas wm is also born in 1880 so if they are not the same child i have got two couples children mixed up. but how do i find out if it is joseph william. it could be staring straight at me,ive looked at that many cencus records today me eyes are going funny. |

Are you sure it says JAS? I think Joseph is sometimes shortened to JOS. |
