I searched for Daniel Butler or Butten/Butter too with those details and nothing came up on any census or Births, Strange isn't it. Maybe he did work for the colliery but was doing a special delivery for it? stranger things have been known:) Carrie

Joanna Report 28 Sep 2006 15:29

Carrie Daniel was a fireman/stoker at the colliery but as that was the main occupation in the northeast he may have done something different before that. Strangely there is no other record for a Daniel Butler with his details so maybe that is him! Joanna

Carrie Report 28 Sep 2006 15:14

What was his occupation?, In 1871 there is a Daniel Butler b 1851 (image says Butter or Butten) )Postman from Suffolk and he is lodging in london, could be him maybe? Carrie

Thanks for your help Mags, Maureen and Diane Mags, no the cert I ordered was for Dan in 1856 in Ipswich turns out to be Arthur and Emma's son you picked out in Family 2. Well I guess I've got James's birth cert as older brother, I guess Daniel will just have to remain unfound.

Is this the cert you've already ordered for Daniel? Name: Daniel Button Year of Registration: 1853 Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep District: Bosmere County: Suffolk Volume: 4a Page: 449 This is poss the other family's Daniel: BOSMERE REGISTRATION DISTRICT Registration County : Suffolk. Created : 1.7.1837 (also 'Bosmere & Claydon' in some early listings). Abolished : 1.4.1935 (succeeded by Gipping district). Sub-districts : Coddenham; Needham Market GRO volumes : XII (1837-51); 4a (1852-1935). Only other way I'd go is perhaps to order a cert from an OLDER brother and if they have the same parents, I guess you are 99% sure they have same Mum. Annoying that the only one you want is not easily found isn't it! Anyway, spent hours on this now, better go and do some work before I have to pick up kids from school! Mags x

Could be, but a bit confusing as if you go back to the page before, Church street is there as well. I wondered if they were perhaps all off the same street, the schedule numbers are in order, and it goes from Church Street, to something Garden, and then Church Street. again Of course it may be that means nothing at all and just how they've been transcribed together! Perhaps one is on the corner of Church Street and the other is next door on the adjacent street? Just odd that they are all listed together on Ancestry. Who knows lol! Mags Mags

Mags If you look at the image of 1871 census for James snr, the Bayleys live on a different road.

Joanna Report 28 Sep 2006 14:12

Yes Emma did die in 1867. Also I do have a birth cert for her daughter Emma, and for James in which mother, Emma's maiden name is Capon. But because I want to prove that James and Daniel were brothers (other than in the census) that's why I want Dan's birth cert.

Mags & Nicky Report 28 Sep 2006 13:49

Here is 1841 info for Emma (if it's her!) Elizabeth Baley abt 1811 William Baley abt 1816 Emma Capen abt 1827 Suffolk, England James Capen abt 1829 Suffolk, England Maria Capen abt 1831 Suffolk, England Mary Capen abt 1806 Suffolk, England Possibly her IGI birth too EMMA CAPON Female Event(s): Birth: Christening: 05 FEB 1826 St Clement, Ipswich, Suffolk, England Death: Burial: Parents: Father: JAMES CAPON Family Mother: MARIA CATHERINE Interestingly, in 1871, next door but one to James with Laura, William & Walter is this Elizabeth Bailey I think! Here is the info in case it helps. Elizabeth Bayley abt 1814 Barcham, Essex, England Elizabeth Bayley abt 1840 Barcham, Essex, England Daughter It would also fit with them being born out of county above. Although they are listed as being part of James' household in 1871, they are next door, and on the image lshown separately. Elizabeth (younger) is shown as being James' daughter. Mags

Sorry, not much help, can't find Daniel with any of his siblings, or separately.! How about approaching this from another angle, if the death cert for Emma above doesn't give her maiden name, what about one of the other siblings birth cert? Here's Maria. Name: Maria Button Year of Registration: 1856 Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep District: Ipswich County: Suffolk Volume: 4a Page: 573 Best of luck Mags

Mags & Nicky Report 28 Sep 2006 13:37

Based on the info above, it would appear that Emma might have died in 1867. Here is the death record. Do they give the maiden name? Name: Emma Button Estimated Birth Year: abt 1827 Year of Registration: 1867 Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep Age at death: 40 District: Ipswich County: Suffolk Volume: 4a Page: 344

Ah I see. I'm still looking to see if I can find both families in 71. I've named them FAMILY 1, 2 & 3 to distinguish!

Joanna

Joanna Report 28 Sep 2006 13:19

A bit of history to Daniel: My gt-grandparents were cousins, children of Daniel and James b1845 who you found in the 51 census, sons of James and Emma Button. On Daniel's marriage cert he is down as Burton son of James, married 1874 aged 20. Because his name has flicked from Button to Burton a number of times I wanted to get his birth cert with Emma's maiden name (Capon) on it as proof. I don't think he was very literate as he had to make his mark on the marriage cert which is why it probably ended up as Burton.

I'll put down the census' we can find him on to see if we can narrow down the birthyear. Can you confirm what you are using as FACTS, is it from his marriage cert? 1881: FAMILY 1 Daniel Butten abt 1853 Ipswich, Suffolk, England Head Isabella Butten abt 1875 South Hetton, Durham, England Daughter Joseph W. Butten abt 1880 Seaham, Durham, England Son Mary A. Butten abt 1856 Seaham, Durham, England Wife Mary A. Butten abt 1877 Scotland Daughter 1871: Some very similar names, but differences in birthyears, just checking them out. ANYWAY looks like could be different family, but must be at least related given the names they have chosen. Perhaps cousins of your Daniel? NOTE: There are two families of Buttons living next but one to each other. FAMILY 2 Arthur Button abt 1827 Winstone, Suffolk, England Head Arthur Button abt 1866 Gosbeck, Suffolk, England Son Benjamin Button abt 1858 Pettaugh, Suffolk, England Son Daniel Button abt 1856 Ipswich, Suffolk, England Son Edward Button abt 1860 Pettaugh, Suffolk, England Son Eliza Button abt 1869 Crowfield, Suffolk, England Daughter Emma Button abt 1838 Crowfield, Suffolk, England Wife Emma Button abt 1870 Crowfield, Suffolk, England Daughter John Button abt 1867 Gosbeck, Suffolk, England Son Joseph Button abt 1864 Gosbeck, Suffolk, England Son Samuel Button abt 1862 Gosbeck, Suffolk, England Son William Button abt 1854 Ipswich, Suffolk, England Son PLUS THESE TWO NEARBY FAMILY 3 William Button abt 1801 Sutton, Suffolk, England Head Betsey Button abt 1847 Pettaugh, Suffolk, England Daughter FAMILY 1 - ROBERT & MARIA (brother & sister) living Ipswich at 23 Potters Street Ann E Button abt 1851 Ipswich, Suffolk, England Wife Maria Button abt 1855 Ipswich, Suffolk, England Sister Robert Button abt 1847 Ipswich, Suffolk, England Head (BRICKMAKER) Robert Button abt 1870 Ipswich, Suffolk, England Son FAMILY 1 - JOHN? Next door to Robert is a JOHN BURTON and wife Sarah, Birthyear could be right, born BUXHALL, don't know if that's near Ipswich? Not listed otherwise as far as I can see. FAMILY 1 - Possibly Father JAMES, but where does Laura come from! Address is something GARDEN. James Button abt 1823 Framlingham, Suffolk, England Head Laura Button abt 1859 Ipswich, Suffolk, England Daughter Walter Button abt 1864 Ipswich, Suffolk, England Son William Button abt 1861 Ipswich, Suffolk, England Son FAMILY 1 - JAMES brother Eliza Brandon abt 1816 Newmarket, Cambridgeshire, England Head Elizabeth Button abt 1846 London, Middlesex, England Daughter James Button abt 1845 Ipswich, Suffolk, England Son-in-law 1861: Living 95 Albion Street with James & Emma aged 7 FAMILY 1 Daniel Button abt 1854 Ipswich, Suffolk, England Son Elizabeth Button abt 1858 Ipswich, Suffolk, England Daughter Emma Button abt 1827 Ipswich, Suffolk, England Wife Emma Button abt 1843 Ipswich, Suffolk, England Daughter James Button abt 1821 Framlingham, Suffolk, England Head James Button abt 1845 Ipswich, Suffolk, England Son John Button abt 1849 Ipswich, Suffolk, England Son Maria Button abt 1856 Ipswich, Suffolk, England Daughter Robert Button abt 1847 Ipswich, Suffolk, England Son William Button abt 1861 Ipswich, Suffolk, England Son

Daniel Button is driving me mad and so I lay down this challenge! I cannot find his birth (managed to order the wrong cert, there is a Daniel b1856) and I can't find him in 1871 census. Here is his history: Born in Ipswich c1854 (I believe in Albion Street, St Clements) to James Button and hopefully Emma Capon (trying to prove this). I have found siblings in St Clements He moved up to Durham and married Mary A Newton in 1874 but I can't find him in the 71 census. He also goes by Daniel Burton or Butten and died in 1889. Can someone help me please? I have looked in Ancestry, freebmd. Joanna
