Hi all- the Fathers name is clearly stated on Williams second marriage certificate when he married Amelia Slater in 1907 at the age of 28 -but he is down as a widower so he MUST have been married previously and as he would been 21 in 1900 I estimate his first marriage between 1900 and 1906-any more advise please regards Ivy

Where did you learn his father's name? Have you found the son and father together on any census? Reg

Ivy, I think the second one is the one Margaret found on the census b 1871, so dont think it is that one now. Have you got the certificate for the first ref? If not you can stipulate the fathers name George as a checking point, this will cost you £10, but they will return £7 if not correct one.

Thanks for the second reply Margaret - the bith year is a little too far out My Willam was born in 1879 but thanks again for your efforts - ( just when you seem to have solved it something dosnt quite fit in!!!!) Looking for my Grandads first marriage around 1900 or later his name is William Simm he remarried in 1907 so his first marriage would be between these dates he lived in Leigh in 1907 so presume this is also where the first marriage was - have sat and search the records on line but nothing seems to match can any one help????? His faters name was George.
