Find Ancestors

hi every1, im new to this and have come to a standstill, my grandad was fred or frederick cordell, my nan i only new as rene, i found my dad phillip cordell in a birth reg 1947 july/aug/sept, and his mothers maiden name was scales or scalos! cant see properly, but i cant find a connection between cordell or scales/scalos in any marriage docs! i dont know exact birth years, or marriage, i just dont know where to go now, so any pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated, xx kaz, xxxx

Where exactly have you looked for the marriage?

was he an only child or were there older/younger siblings?

hi pamela, ive paid for credits on gr, but its just a guessing game on the correct year marriage year, im not that good on a pc, my kids try to teach me, lol, so ill have to get my son to find the files i have, is there an easy way to do this, lol, x

my dad phillip had 6 or 7 brothers and sisters, but i have no idear about my grandad fred, x

Hello Karen Have had look at the info. you mention about your Dad's birth in 1947. Looked on ancestry bmd ( it's free until 30th November ) and it confirms what you found. Your Nan's maiden name was SCALES. Firstly was your Dad the eldest or the youngest in his family ? If he was eldest then possibly your Nan and Grandad's marraige was close to the year of 1947. If otherwise then you will need to find out approx. date of eldest bro/sis of your Dad's family. Will have a look around the year 1946 for marraige. Regards - Jim

hi jools, yep, phill was in the middle som where, think the eldest was a mavis cordell, kathleen was my aunty, i remeber her as nat! the youngest were twins peter and paul, x

Karen - if you're ringing your mum, ask her if Fred was in WW2 He was the right age - if so there could have been a gap in the children's years of birth

Karen Have had look through years 1939 - 1947 on ancestry bmd but cannot find marraige for Fred(erick ) CORDELL to Rene ( Irene) SCALES. Think about the ages of your Dad's bros/sis as that will give possible key to marraige date. Regards - Jim

I can't see any more from after your dad to ond 1953
