I have brother and sister, David and Margaret Tulip born 1845 and 1848 in Lanark. The first trace of them is in the 1851 census where Margaret was living with grandparent David Watson, I cannot find David and in 1861 both living with their uncle John Tulip in Durham. Thereafter David is easy to follow. I am having no luck finding their parents. None of John's brothers seemed to have married a Watson. The whole thing is a mystery - can anyone help! Joanna |

Yours must be registered in the same place as my Liversedges lol I can't find any trace of them on Scotlands People baptism register. No David in 1851 either. How about getting the marriage cert? Marriages Jun 1873 SHARP Margaret Houghton 10a 757 Tulip David Houghton 10a 757 That should (hopefully) give his father. Their parents (at least one of them) is probably from Northumberland. |

Hadn't thought about David's marriage cert!! What makes you think they would come from Northumberland (out of interest)?! |

That's where John is from, plus it's close to Scotland making the commute quite easy. |

I've just found David on Durham Records in the 1851 census living with grandparents William and Jane and their son Thomas who is widowed. Which sort of puts the cat amongst the pigeons as John didn't have a brother Thomas (as far as I was aware) and his parents were William and Margaret. Oh no back to the drawing board - maybe I've got the wrong family!!!!!!! |

Yes but his age is out by 10 years and his place of birth is Northumberland rather than Durham. |

Had abandoned my computer for christmas card writing and come back to all that!! Going to have some lunch and then I'll look through what you've got there, some which I already have. Martha's name was Christie. I was up until the wee hours last night/this morning (sad I know) and I don't think that the Thomas Tulip listed on the 1841 is the Thomas we're looking into. back shortly - Jo |

Bang goes that theory then lol I think the marriage cert is the best way to go. Still puzzles me how the two families are connected. I have to go back to work now, but I'll look more tonight if I can :) |

Have ordered the marriage cert of David Tulip to find out his father. Now all I need is to find proof that Thomas Tulip was the son of William Tulip and Margaret Bones, and that William had remarried after Margaret's death. |
