By the 1841 census it would appear that his father is Isaac born c1786 an agricultural labourer. Sorry my Genes site dropped out for a minute. Jess I think you may be onto something as George married Susan in 1850 at Chesterton and the ch'n to the marriage are: James 1852 Elizabeth 1855 Isaac 1858 William 1859 John 1862 Herbert 1865 Sarah Jane 1870 Some of the names are the same, maybe they used the parents names for their ch'n as they did back ten.

Have you got the ref for the marraige of George and Susan?? he married her a year later than you say George Gifford 1851 Apr-May-Jun Chesterton Cambridgeshire Susan Handley 1851 Apr-May-Jun Chesterton Cambridgeshire Name: George Gifford Year of Registration: 1851 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun DISTRICT: Chesterton County: Cambridgeshire Volume: 14 Page: 75 this cert will end all speculation/guess work , it will TELL you his fathers name. There is a george Gifford marries in Chesterton, in 1850, but not to a susan. that too maybe his marriage, his 1851 may help to shed some light on that
