Trisha, The marriage reference I posted earlier is cross-referenced with Surname First name(s) District Vol Page -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages Dec 1890 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Groocock Catherine Lillas Bradford, Y 9b 281 Turner Charles Bradford, Y. 9b 281 If you order the marriage certificate you'll get verification of Charles age, an address and his father's name and occupation. All of those bits of information may help locate him in earlier censuses. Currently all you have from the 1901 and 1891 census is that he comes from Suffolk and was born c1863. The Ipswich info from the 1901 census may have been written as a guessed correction after it was realised that Town and county of Suffolk was incorrect.

Jess, I'm not sure out the 2 because I have no other mention of the second christian name John ie with the Charles from Lowestoft; and the other Charles born Kirton - I've just looked at a map and that's very close to Ipswich. Thanks Trisha

In the 1891 census Ancestry have him as Charle Turner the household: Household Members: Name Age Florrie Sroocock 18 Louisa Swaby 21 Charle Turner 28 Kate Turner 24 RG12; Piece: 3827; Folio 41; Page 20 I think that Floorie is actually GROOCOCK - Kate's sister

Thanks Guys. I didn't realise Ipswich was in Suffolk. I don't have the transcription of the 1901 census, so didn't have his occupation then. I suppose it could be either of the 1864 Charles? but I don't know where those places are in relation to Ipswich. Actually, I've just double checked his birth on the 1891 census and it works out at 1863. Regards Trisha

I think that HEWISH is a mistranscription of IPSWICH. Take a close look at his place of birth in the 1901 census and I think you'll agree that Ipswich is correct. It looks like the origin entry read Suffolk County and Town but the phrase county and town has been struck out and Ipswich written above it.

I would be very grateful to anyone who can find Charles Turner for me in 1871. He was born c1864 in Hewish, Suffolk on the 1901 and 1891 census, occupation publican, married to Kate c1868, he married Kate in 1890. I can't find him in 1881 (on the IGI).
