Hi Justin, which images are you trying to view? Only the FreeBMD and FULL BMD indexs are free. Keith

For the love of god - does anyone know how to search for free on the Ancestory site???: whenever I log onto it (yes I have registered) records come up, I then get excited and click onto either view image or a record it takes me to a damn upgrade screen. I have already spent £600 pounds for dissapointing results, I do not want burn yet more money on another subscription that to my mind is not at all cheap. Any ideas give up?! or keep trying?? Justin

Hi Keith, I just want to see a Census snap shot of a family at any given census date but it just wants money from me. Its a carrot and stick method to reel in the punters I think. Well can't pay for the carrot any ideas?

Go to this address:- http://www.ancestry(.)co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx remove the brackets from this address. Then click on either births, marriages or deaths in the top box which is entitled 'Complete BMD Index ranges & Images 1837 - 1983'. Then put in a name and year and you should get four qtrs come up for the year you have entered. Then click on 'view image' for each qtr of that year. Kath. x

Hi again Justin. Yes, give you the BMDs free, but charge for census images. I have the annual membership at £69.95 I think it was, this gives me a years unlimited access to all the UK records and some overseas records. Keith

KathleenBell Report 26 Dec 2006 16:18

Justin, You can't view census images for free - you have to pay the subscription to be able to do this, and the most recent census available to the public is 1901, so anything after this you will not be able to see. I don't think you fully understand what records are available on Ancestry. You can find family members at 10 yearly intervals on the census on Ancestry - but only from 1841 up to 1901 (every ten years). Kath. x

You could do the 14 day free trial, if you have a credit card. You have to remember to cancel before the 14 days are up or they take the money off your card for a subscription.

Justin - You have all the cenus returns for the folk you want, dont you ?( i thought you had) the couple you keep asking for will not feature on availible census after their marriage as they didnt marry until 1906

Sue, Katjleen and Kieth- Thanks. I tried that link you gave me for ancestory and it actually worked. I gives you a tiny view if you are lucky but of course often it ask you to upgrade!! Jess- Yes I have a lot of census info but want to work back from some names. As for people born after 1901 etc as you say its not possible. Pity because Hilda is an enigma as she was the sister of my grandfather John Francis Tripp 1909 who died. I cannot understand what happened to her or why the Tripps were known by other names. e.g Thomas James TRIPP (aka) Francis William TRIPP) b. 18 March 1883 Pancras My fthaer and grandfather are dead as are both grandparents and my mother has no memory or interest in the family tree. So I am interested to look back and maybe find some scandel, prison records or anything else. I have built a tree but it has gaps that have been filled a little with your help and others on this site. You have access to see as I ticked yes on this site. Thanks. Justin

Hello again Justin, I think you may be getting a little confused about tree access on here. The only way people can access your tree is by you giving access to them individually, you cannot give 'blanket' access to everyone. Other members can search for names, and if it is in your tree will show up, but then they have to contact you and ask your permission to access your tree. Keith

You won't get anywhere until you take notice of what you are told................... Adding innumerable threads about precisely the same people will not further your cause, particularly as you seem determined to ignore all the advice and info you are given. Sorry to seem blunt, but I have added on so many of your threads without your taking any notice, and I have just lost patience................... Reg

Almost evryone in your tree has birth dates of C...whatever year, can you firm up on those that you have certs for please so we have deffo dates to work from

Marmite Report 26 Dec 2006 22:45

Jess Bow Bag

Jess Bow Bag Report 26 Dec 2006 22:51

Well, putting it politely - dont keep asking for the same info then! Reg looks it up for you, you the just ask again- that is enoug to wind anyone up - be fair! Up date your tree with accurate dates, for births, deaths and marriages where you have the certs, then we can perhaps fill gaps for you

Marmite

Marmite Report 27 Dec 2006 08:30

Ok pint taken. I will try to varify all information (if I can understand it). I will not ask for the same info. I will once again try to obtain a cert or two from the GRO site. I have tried 3 times and hit a wall when it asks for a full DOB. I have been told by a few people that you do not need a full DOB so maybe I have been looking on the wrong page. I may send them an email and wind then up to see why! .....my next victims. Only joking! Thanks thanks and thanks again for everyones help. I will slowly sift through all the help today. I wish I could find more on Hilda. 2 people have told me two diiffernt Hilda's with different middle names and one found a death record of I think 1967. My uncle said she died when he was 16 and he was born in 1935 so it did not add up. But as you will tell me the only way is to get a cert. This is an excellnet site and you are all clever and helpful people. I will play by the rules! ta ta :-) Justin
