Yes thatsthe right family!! Elaine in Spain found marriage of Thomas 1846 to Elizabeth 1848 on 25 Dec 1867. Thomas dad was William Upton. Its Williams birth I am looking for. I looked on IGI and god knows how but found a William and Lucy, going by Thomas birth date. Now Im confused as I dont know if this is right

If you got thomas's marriage certificate, it would tell you his dad's name and what he did for a living. If you got the marriage certificate of his parents, it would tell you about their fathers. Sometimes witnesses can give a clue to being related in some way

So it wouldn't really tell me anything about Thomas mum and dad then, its Thomas 1846 mum and dad Im after

The one Jess has found looks llike the prime candidate then! On a mariage certificate you would find Date and place of marriage Namess and condition of bride and groom (ie spinster, bachelor, widowed) Age if under 21 Professions of the couple Residence Father's names and professions Witnesses Please beware...the information is only as good as the people providing it...they could say anything and noone would check!

They definatley came from Winterbourne, Bristol which came under Gloucestershire.

Thanks Mandy. They lived in Winterbourne, Bristol. I know Thomas born 1846 and Elizabeth 1848 are definatley right. I did some searching and found that Thomas 1846 was a stone mason. I then found a Thomas abt 1806 married to a Lucy and he was a stone cutter but I suppose that was the in thing in them days...I dont know, I think I have lost the plot. What would Thomas and Elizabeths marriage cert give me? do you know

You can never be certain...I'll have a look to see if I can help you narrow it down! Do you have an area he lived in? You will need to be really specific including counties just in case my knowledge of that area is as useless as I suspect it will be!

Hi I am still looking into the Thomas Upton side of my family. In 1901 census Thomas was 18, born abt 1883. Mother Elizabeth. I know this is definatley correct. How do I order his birth cert as there are a few Uptons on ancestry at that time. How do I know which is the right cert to order? Thanks Marcelle
