I got home today to find the marriage certificate of my GGGrandfather. It has confirmed some things but also added some questions. Can someone PLEASE help. OK here are the details that I have to date: George GIFFORD c1830 Isle of Ely Cambridge Father: Isaac GIFFORD married 26/5/1851 at Landbeach Susan HANDLEY c1827 Landbeach Father: William HANDLEY Present at marriage were: James HANDLEY, Rebecca HANDLEY & John TINKLER (don't know who this would be?) I am assuming that James and Rebecca are Susan's siblings? From what I have looked at previously on the censuses these names don't appear as her siblings so maybe I was looking at another family in the same area???? or maybe these are cousins?? George & Susan's children are: James c1852 Elizabeth c1855 Isaac c1858 William c1859 John c1862 Herbert c1865 Sarah Jane c1870 I would be greatful for any help as I am now confused. |

Hi Katrina. James HANDLEY could be either a brother, uncle, or even possibly a cousin, perhaps. Rebecca HANDLEY could also be a sister or even the wife of James HANDLEY. John TINKLER may be a friend of either groom or bride, or even just a friend of the family. Many possible scenario's. Good luck. Tony Oz |

1841 Landbeach William Headley abt 1789 Cambridgeshire, England Landbeach Cambridgeshire Sarah Headley abt 1799 Cambridgeshire, England Landbeach Cambridgeshire Susan Headley abt 1826 Cambridgeshire, England Landbeach Cambridgeshire James Headley abt 1829 Cambridgeshire, England Landbeach Cambridgeshire Ann Headley abt 1833 Cambridgeshire, England Landbeach Cambridgeshire Pheba Headley abt 1835 Cambridgeshire, England Landbeach Cambridgeshire Henry Headley abt 1836 Cambridgeshire, England Landbeach Cambridgeshire Jane Headley abt 1839 Cambridgeshire, England Landbeach Cambridgeshire So that gives us James. I'm guessing Susan perhaps wasn't the eldest child? So maybe an elder brother had married a Rebecca? |
