Find Ancestors

Hi Is there anyone who could help find the marriage of Emma Whippey to a William Hendley, they are the parents of my great grandad who was born Q1 1891. The 1891 census shows them living in Hoyland Yorkshire and their eldest son is listed as William born in the Sheffield area abt 1885. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks Jo

Hi Joanne Do you know for certain that her maiden name was Whippey, i.e from one of the children's birth certs. William's brother-in-law with the surname Whippey was living with them in 1891 but he wasn't necessarily Emma's brother. Maureen

only men on that marriage is Joseph Hunt Henry Ward unless she married first to one of these Jeanette

can't find any William Hendleys marrying any Emma's from 1880 onwards when looking on free bmd Jeanette

It could be that they didn't marry, given that on the birth cert Emma makes no mention of being married before.

Many thanks to everyone for your help. I wondered if she had married someone before William and the 1881 census suggests that William was married to a Anne Potts prior to him marrying Emma. But it looks like a marriage for a William Hendley can't be found from 1880 onwards ............... ah well that's one mystery I don't know how to solve. Thanks again for everyones time. Tracy I can't find the 1891 census which shows Emma living with her uncle because if that is the same Emma M then it's not the one I am looking for as I have the 1891 census data showing william living with Emma born Scholes, Lancashire about 1862. Thanks Jo

thanks Tracy! I think I am getting myself all confused with this now, I think I'd best take a break and see if when I look at it again I can piece things together. As you say William and Emma may never have got married but then I may find it difficult to prove that they are one and the same person. Never mind. Thanks again for all your help.
