Find Ancestors

Could someone give me any ideas how to search for Sarah Mc Dermott in 1861. I think I have her parents on the 1851 HO107 2302 104 9 Northowram, Yorkshire. And Sarah on the 1871 RG10 4139 74 23 in Stubbins, Lancashire On the 1871, 1881 and 1891 Sarah states year of birth 1855 in Halifax. Can't find a birth registration for Sarah. She married William Grimshaw Dec 1875 in Bury (no certificate yet) Any help out there please, Joan x

Hi Georgina, and Thanks. On the 1871 dad is called Patrick (64) and is widowed aged 64 born Ireland. On the 1851 I have found Patrick (43) and wife Mary (36).

This is possibly Jane's birth reference.... Births Sep 1857 (82%) McDermott Jane Halifax 9a 370 Georgina.

Yes, Georgina, I saw that one. There is also one for Liverpool for Sarah in 1855 but they seemed quite constant with putting Halifax.

So is my family searching ! Have you noticed on the 1851 margret and amry both aged 3. Can't find twins registered. Oh Sarah A where are you chuck ?

Georgina, thanks for sticking with this one; I know from the 1871 that Sarah was 16, 1881 she was 26 and 1891 she was 36. Seems consistant that she was born in 1855.

Joan I think the only way forward (or backward) is to get her marriage certificate and check her fathers details otherwise it is just guesswork. Georgina.

Just had a though forced upon me....... I wonder if the family (because they all seem to have disappeared ) emigrated. Does anyone have access to the US 1860 census ? Fingers crossed, Joan
