I have just looked at Freebmd Reggie and it doesn't appear to give a link to a site that gives that info :( So for Rachel.... From 1st April 1969 (for females over age 16) a maiden name will be recorded on a death certificate, if applicable. Chris

Can't you get her maiden name if you know her surname when she died. If you put her details on here perhaps someone can find her marriage details for you. Good luck Irene

Sorry to disagree, Chris, but I've just been looking at it.............. Reg

I'm looking for the maiden name for A sarah born in Stanley west yorks in 1827 she marries a Robert H Brown born 1823 scotland in 1901 they are living in Horbury and before that Ossett, West Yorks. They have a few children, my line follows there daughter Francis, however i havn't found what i feel as a suitable match in the bmd records of any of the children to confidently purchase a cert. I spoke to Wakfield reg office the other day and they told me that Ossett births are likely to be registered with them, however, it is on the boarder with Dewsbury. Any ideas? Rachel

Reggie Point me in the right direction then 'cause it is annoying me now lol :))) I went through....Information.....Civil Registration..... and that gave two links, one to Barbara Dixon's brilliant site and the other to Genuki. I must have missed something because I couldn't see Maiden names on death certs mentioned on either link. Please put me out of my misery Reggie :) Chris

Hi Chris.............. I just realised that you have to be on the page where you get an actual result after making a search. Where it says - below the result - click here for what to do next............there is a load of info when you 'click'. Have to say, it's not as accurate as it might be, as it fails to mention the 1969 'watershed'. Sorry if I caused havoc!! Reg

Shirley Thanks, but in fact what I am querying with Reg is where the info can be found on/via Freebmd :) I hate the thought that I might be missing out on a source of research information I didn't know about :)))) Chris

A death certificate gives the following information; Date and place of death Name, sex and occupation of deceased Cause of death Name and address of informant Date of registration Also the name of a dead woman's husband might be given. For a legitimate child under school leaving age the name of the father should be given,; and that of the mother too from 1982 onwards. Since 1969, additional information is given; Date and place of birth Usual address Maiden name if a married woman obtained from : http://home.clara(.)net/tirbach/HelpPagepearls.html#DeathCerts Just seen that you managed to get your answer, but bookmark the site its handy.

Thanks guys, I've looked and looked for there wedding but no look so far. On Robert's burial record his middle name is Heron and in the 1951 census he is a Widower, he's also down as a woman, but I don't think i'll worry about that for now. I have looked to try and find his scotish history with little look. The surname Brown is just so common!

Reg Thanks for getting back.....No Havoc caused :)))) I haven't tried that option in the results page so that's all new to me! .....Making a mental note to try it next time I do a search! I had to hunt through several of the reference books I have to find the info on maiden names on death certs so I was just hoping you had found a direct web link to the info which would be easier for people needing it. Oh if only Genealogy (and life) were that simple :))) Chris
