can anyone please do a look up for me on the 1901 and 1891 census?? i am looking for james white the only details i have for him are that in 1895 he was living in brasside, framwellgate, durham and his occupation is brick maker. i got this info from a baptism record, he is my great grandfather. but he wasn't married to may great grandmother! she also lived at brasside and was called frances ferry, this bit of info might help! if anyone can even see some possibles that would be great, it will give me something to go on! if anyone can help, it will be much appreciated!! thanks jenny

here is all i know! there were 2 children jane white ferry b.1895 william white ferry b.1893 both were the children of frances ferry b.1875 and james white, info as above! frances and james were not married as in 1897 frances went on to marry william shanks and have 2 more daughters. on the 1901 census both jane and william are living with their grandparents ( george and anne ferry) although they are listed as their parents! and frances as their sister! i have janes birth certificate which just names frances, father name not given, have since found janes baptism record and her father is listed as james white. the story in our family goes... that jane and william's father was their mothers employee and that she was paid after the birth of the children! however this has never been supported by any evidence what so ever! sorry i know its like looking for a needle in a haystack! as for james i dont know if he was married, widowed or single! thanks jenny

ok thanks for your help! i know its going to be hard with the little bit of info i have to go on! but as he wasn't named on birth cert i never even thought i would get as much as his name, so that in itself was a miracle!

I tried looking for Whites in Framwellgate. 1891 census has just 7, one of which is transcribed as John Ja White. He is about the right age. 'Ja' might just conceivably be short for James. The census image does not help much - have a look. However, he is a cinder drawer, which doesn't seem to fit, although he could have changed jobs? For some reason, both Ancestry and 1901 census agree that there are no Whites in Framwellgate in 1901??

frances also lived at framwellgate which might be another possible address to look at! thanks jenny
