Heres Robert's birth ref. Births Dec 1904 (>99%) Reay Robert Henry Carlisle 10b 587 To find out his parents you need to order the Cert from the GRO (general records office), it will cost you £7. After that things get a little easier with the census for help though you always need to back up what you find in the census with certs. Good luck, Mhairi

If you find your mum's birth reg'n, it will tell you the correct spelling for Bessie's surname.......... The marriage wouldn't be too long before the birth.............especially if Bessie was born as late as 1911......... Reg

Two possibles for Bessie.....though perhaps a little early.......... Name: Bessie Huggon Year of Registration: 1903 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar District: Carlisle County: Cumbria, Cumberland Volume: 10b Page: 587 Name: Bessie Huggon Year of Registration: 1908 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun District: Carlisle County: Cumbria, Cumberland Volume: 10b Page: 642 Your best bet would be to find the marriage...........the cert would tell the age of each of them at the time, plus the names and occupations of their respective fathers. Hey :) On your mums birth registration her mothers maiden name is Huggon. You can look for the marriage here http://www.ancestry*co*uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx Make sure you look at the full index, not just the partial one as that one is not completed yet. You may have to sign up to ancestry to view the bmd records but you dont have to take out a subscription. Hope thats of some help Mhairi

I've checked for you........just this once!!....and found the birth reg'n. The MMN is Huggon.....so one of the births I posted above is probably 'your' Bessie. Reg

You can order the certificate online from the GRO at this address:- www.gro.gov.uk/certificates You will need the name, qtr. year, district, volume number and page number. With these details the certificate will cost £7. Kath. x

Here is the marriage reference:- Robert H. Reay, spouse Bessie Huggon March qtr. 1927, Carlisle, 10b, 772 It would be best to get this certificate first as it will give you both father's names and occupations, The names will help as checking points when you order the birth certificates. (As it happens, my mother-in-law was a Reay before marriage - though from a different part of the country - Lily Winifred Reay born Hartlepool if you ever come across her). Kath. x
