Samuel Driver. I thnk he married a Betty. Hes on the 1841 census born Thornton West Yorks 1816 living with a Betty born Thornton. They live with Samuels parents & David born 1828 is their nephew & i presume Nathan born 1838 is Samuel & Betty's Son. But I cant find a marriage???

Nic, Registration of bmds did not start until September 1837 ........ so unless they married after this date, you will not find them on freebmd or the bmds on ancestry. I've looked on freebmd, and while I can find several Samuel Drivers married between September 1837 and 1850, there was only one Elizabth, and that was in Sheffield. They may NOT have married, of course! Have you looked on the mormon site (www.familysearch.org) to see whether the parish records have been put on there? Of course, you could always buy the brth certificate for one or more of their children .... that will tell you the mother's maiden name Sylvia (in Canada)

Thanx Sylvia, Yes Ive looked on Family Search but to no avail. i'll have to bet the birth cert. Samuel is on the 1851 census with 3 other children but is down as widowed, so she must have died bet 1846 & 1851 Nic..

Hi Sylvia, that date sounds about right. she had Faith in 1846?? Bradford was the nearest District to Thornton. Thank you very much for your help.

I also found the death of a Male Driver in December 1848, Bradford, though not on the same page as Betty ........ is it stretching it to suggest that that might be her baby? SylviaInCanada Report 1 May 2007 19:30

It certainly was!! But also lots of deaths from phthisis .............. or TB as we now call it!! Might be worth spending £7 to order her death certificate from GRO! Of course, you'd have to hope it is the right Betty!!! Sylvia

Nic, Go to www.freebmd.org.uk It's a work in progress ........ volunteers are slowly but surely inputting all the registrations from September 1837 to the present day on to the web. They are currently upto about 1915. Ancestry uk is also carrying these same records, although a little behind freebmd as ancestry downloads from freebmd. The advantage on ancestry is that they are also carrying the Complete Index from 1837 to about 2005 ..................... but you have to search that quarter by quarter, year by year so it can be very time-consumning. BUT it is the only way to find registration information after about 1910 or 1915. It is FREE to register with ancestry to look at all the bmds. Sylvia
