Hello, My gt grandfather John Campbell was b.c. 1851 Strachur or Inverary , sometimes in census returns he gives his birthplace Inverary and at other times Strachur. He came to Kilbarchan , Renfs. and was married there in 1873 to Mary Rodger. Although he gave his parents names in the marr cert.as John Campbell = Mary Smith (both deceased) I have searched Argyll and other places but there is no John Campbell marr to a Mary Smith. I now think he may have been illegitimate/ or mother died in childbirth/ someone else brought him up, all of which brings me to a brick wall! He died in 1904 in Kilbarchan. Now wondering if he had any brothers or sisters? If anyone recognizes any of this I would be delighted to hear from them. Thanks, Irene.
