Trying to find Streeter

Hi Ian

Re: your message from 2003 concerning James Streeter. He is not my direct ancestor and I haven't researched him closely. But according to someone else's family tree, (A Michael Streeter), he has connected him to me through Job Streeter b. 1799 in Billingshurst. He had a brother James, born in 1801.

As I say I cannot definitely confirm if your James is the same one, but if he is, he is the son of William & Mary Streater (nee Greenstead) of Billingshurst in Sx. William married Sarah in 1792. He was a miller who owned a number of properties in the town prior to his bankruptcy in 1801. He died in 1824 and Sarah died in 1828. His brother Job went on to also live in Horsham (and another brother Thomas) and married Amey Humphrey in 1821. He brought up a large family there. I am related in turn through his eldest son James who was born in 1822 and who first moved to Croydon c. 1850.

I imagine you have probably had previous replies concerning this since your original message, so I hope some of this has confirmed what you already knew. If you have done further research since, I would be interested in comparing what I have discovered, as I am trying to get back beyond William's grandfather, William the Elder of Billingshurst at the moment.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards Phil Streeter

Ian
