MCLEAN/MATHESON I am looking for a connection between LACHLAN MCLEAN MATHESON/MATHIESON (b Renfrew, Scotland 1860) and DONALD MCLEAN (b about 1844 either in Salford, Lancs or Govan, Scotland). On the 1881 census, Lachlan is a lodger with Donald and his family at 17, Fleming St, Govan. Lachlan's parents were DUNCAN MATHESON and MARY MCLEAN, both born in North Uist in the 1820s, but births not registered. They married in 1855 in Renfrew, Scotland. Mary's parents were JOHN MCLEAN and CHRISTINE MACDONALD. Witnesses at the marriage were ARCHIBALD MCLEAN and DUNCAN MCLEAN. Donald was illegitimate. His mother was AGNES MCDONALD. On his marriage certificate his father is given as JOHN MCLEAN (deceased). A witness at the marriage is FLORA MCLEAN. I think Mary's father, John, may also have been Donald's father. Can anyone help me with this? Any suggestions gratefully received! |
