Trying to find Lawler

I am trying to find my GG Grandfather, Samuel Lawler, I don't know exactly when he was born, but my GG Grandmother Eliza Lewis, his wife was born 1829 so I imagine it must be somewhere around that time. They had at least 4 daughters the eldest born about 1864, so I have searched for a marriage back as far as 1859 without any luck. In the 1881 census Eliza was living in Bristol as a housekeeper and her 4 daughters, the youngest being 4yrs old, were classed as lodgers and Eliza as a widow. I searched for a death for Samuel from 1878-1881, again without any luck. My Grandmother, married in Bristol in 1897 and on her marriage certificate it states Samuel Lawler as a coal porter, but it doesn't state deceased, so any suggestions as too where I might go next?
