John Ramsay was an Excise Officer. He married Agnes Chisholm (born 1822 in Kirkintilloch, died 1879 in Gorton, Manchester). Their daughter Margaret was born in Rothes (Dundurcas) in 1841, and a son James was born in Dunbar in 1844. When Margaret was married in 1869, John was described as 'of Inland Revenue, deceased’. I have been unable to put any further dates to John, and unfortunately the marriage records seem to be unavailable for the likely date, which I guess was 1838-40 - although there probably was a marriage, as Margaret is described as 'lawful daughter' in the baptism register (the alternative wording would have been 'natural daughter') Any additional information about any of these people would be most welcome. Thanks in hope! Alastair Thomas (John’s great-great-grandson). |
