Trying to find Thompson

I am trying to find some information about my great grandfather known as wesley thompson. He was born around 1865 give or take most likely in suffolk. the only information I have about him is from family legaend and it goes like this: Wesley Thompson was the son of a gentleman Farmer from Woodbridge area of Suffolk, whose surname was possibly double berrelled Thompson-Lyons. He was married with 2 children but fell in love with a maid/local girl - Esther Caroline Brooks who came from Debach Entire, Woodbridge and they ran away to Birminghamaround 1920 or just before, he never divorced his wife. They had 2 children together who were known as Thompson. When his father died a notice was put in a London paper asking for him to come forward and claim his inheritance but he refused to do this as he beleived he would have to leave his love and return to the family home. If this rings any bells with anyone I would be grateful if you could point me in the right direction especially regards the name issue as I can find no trace on the 1901 census of Thompson-Lyons.
