George Brown I am tring to find the parents of my grandfather, JAMES BROWN. but information is very limited. Marriage Certificate and 1901 census show him born in 1875 in Hull, East Yorkshire. His fathers name is given as WILLIAM who is a Fruit Merchant James married MARIA HOY at St Lukes Church, Hull in 1897. In 1901, James is a general labourer living with Maria at 3 Cannon Street, Hull. James died in Hull in 1920. The problem:- The birth register for Hull 1875 shows only ONE James Brown (and his parents were WILLIAM and Rebecca). I have been told that it is highly unlikely that this could be my grandfather. However. there are THREE James Browns in the 1901 Hull census (one is my grandfather) all born in Hull in 1875 ???. Does anyone have any information on this family or suggestions that might help to solve this puzzle.Where could the other James' have come from. |
