This is a major longshot. My Grandfather Charles SMITH lived in Egham Hythe Surrey.He also lived in Chavey Down and Virginia Water where he lived in the big house at the top of the lake next to the ruins. He was a policeman. He was verger of St Pauls Church,Egham Hythe. . He died round about 1960.He was born about 1890 I think . He was married to Georgina. I think her name was BIRCHALL or something similar. I was always told as a child we were decended from ROMANY stock. I believe my grandparents were distantly related. I was told my grandmothers family settled in Reading around 1850 and some died in the READING floods. HOw can I find out about Romany ancestors/ Does anyone know. I was taught many Romany traditions as a child so have no doubt what I was told was true. The name at the top says Stephen LAING He is my husband . My name is Sandra Laing nee SLEEP |
