Trying to find Brown

Im trying to find out where my great uncle actually came from. My Grandad (Leslie Brown) has a brother Len Brown who is married to Kitty. The story in the family all these years has been that Len was adopted BUT the surname on his birth certificate is Brown and he looks so much like my grandad. Len has no idea and the only remaining relative is his sister Dorrie who is 90 and no-one in the family can bring themselves to ask her as when we tried to once she got funny. We are wondering if its an 'in the family' job! There are no pictures of Len as a baby with his brother or sister which makes it harder!
