William, just an idea - as you say, this is a very old posting. You might try sending a message to Anne by clicking on her name. She only ever posted 3 times though so I wouldn't be too hopeful to be honest.
You could also try checking for other matches (search box above) or start a thread of your own should you want assistance.

I am aware that your query about Longford Shanleys dates from several years ago, but I have only just seen it, having been unsubscribed from Genes Reunited for quite some time. However, I am intrigued that your father was a Longford-born stonemason because I am also descended from Longford Shanleys who were stonemasons for at least three generations; the most important of whom, for me, is my great-grandfather John Shanley, born in 1852 in the townland of Cloontagh in County Longford.
I surmise that your father's father was John's nephew, James Shanley, who was born at Cloontagh in 1890 and, according to the 1911 census, who was also a mason.
James's father was Francis Shanley, born in 1857, again at Cloontagh; he is listed in the 1901 census as a railway mason. He had eight children - in this order: Patrick, Catherine, Margaret Helen, James, Francis (jr.), John Joseph, Thomas and Michael. Of these, Patrick and James were also masons and, possibly, the younger boys may have become masons, too.
For me, the ancestral stonemason link is too strong to ignore. For not only were Francis (sen.) and my great-grandfather, John, masons, so, too, was their father Patrick Shanley.
Patrick who married Ellen Flynn in 1839 at St Mary's RC Church in 1839 died in 1872. He, too, lived at Cloontagh. I don't know when he was born because parish records only commence in 1829.
I hope this is of interest to you and that, if we are indeed connected, that you may have some information on my great-grandfather, John Shanley. I know that, some time after 1901, he returned to Longford from Blackburn, Lancashire, leaving behind his wife and eight children - one them my grandfather, John Francis Shanley, who also became a stonemason. I do not know what became of John Shanley back in Ireland or when or where he lived or died - except that, according to family lore, he took up with a childhood sweetheart, called Anne, who adopted the Shanley surname and who came to Blacknburn in the 1920s and was housekeeper there and later in Salford to a family called Newman.
