My grandfather, Oliver Brown, was born in, approximately, 1895 in Brighton, East Sussex. He had two sisters, Grace and Ruth and three brothers, Alf, Bert (who lived in Rye) and Bern. He married Emily Smith and they had six children, Jack, Gladys (my mother), Kathleen, Ernest, Elizabeth and Robert. They lived in Bear Road, in Brighton, for quite some time. Apparently, his parents were country folk but nothing seems to be known of them. Emily was one of ten children but only another six are remembered: George, Bill, Frank (who worked on a market stall in Brighton), Rose, Nell and Gert. Little is known of Emily's parents except that her mother, who was also Emily, got married again, after her husband's death, to Tom Hayler. It would be very interesting to know if anyone has any knowledge of these people. Debra Carter (nee Andrew) |
