Trying to find King

Can anyone help? I am trying to trace my gg grandfather. I only have his children and their mother's names to go by. It appears that they carried their mothers surname even though she is in the census as widowed. In 1871 census, Alice King b1844, Sligo, Ireland. Lives in Lancashire, UK with relatives eg, mum, brother sisters. - No Husband. In 1881 census she as a son William King b1877 (my g grandad) and a daughter Letitia Mary b1880 both born in Lancashire. She is down as widowed. I believe she had her children out of wedlock and said widowed so as not to be frowned upon - I suppose she could have married a King! Does anyone know of any ways that I can try to find their father? Or even better does this ring any bells? I have a hit a brick wall with this and would love to know who this mystery man is. Any info, no matter how small would be gratefully appreciated. Many Thanks, Vicky. |
