DAVIES - GLANAMMAN I'm trying to find information on my husband's family. His great grandfather was Jonathan Davies born c. 1854 in Gwynfe, Carmarthenshire. He was a stone mason and married Mary Ann Thomas c. 1883 (her family ran a butcher's) and their children were born in and around Glanamman - Richard John b 1888, Henry C., Jonah and Jonathan. Jonathan Sr. died about 1902 and Richard became a coal miner; until then he had been apprenticed to his father. Richard married Ann Williams in about 1910 She was from Gwaun ce Gerwan (sorry if that's wrong, that's how it's spelled on the info I have!). They had 6 children, Clement, Clara, Rees, Jenny, another daughter whose name I don't know, and Richard Jonathan. Richard and Ann came to Canada before 1915 and their last two or three children were born in Alberta, they later moved to the Chilliwack area of British Columbia. Their son Richard Jonathan joined the Canadian Army during WWII and while stationed overseas often went to visit his father's family in Wales. Richard John Davies's brothers Jonah and Jonathan also came to Canada, Jonah to BC and Jonathan to Ontario. At one point their mother lived in Canada too but I don't know if she returned to Wales. She remarried and her last name was Rauson. I believe Henry Davies stayed in Wales. Any information would be appreciated, thanks! |
