I know this is an old message, and I am afraid I can't add any info to your query, but I am wondering whether we may have a connection.

I am researching my family history and one branch of the family had the surname SMITH and was living in Hay in 1933. I know it is common surname but I was wondering if anything of the following rang any bells with you or your family.

In 1919 a Henry James Smith (known as Harry) married a Leah Hart in London, England and they both travelled to Australia soon after. They had certainly settled in Hay by 1933. He had been born in Cootamundra and had served in the Australian military during WW1, having fought in France and recovered from his injuries in London – presumeably where he met Leah. Leah had been born in Devon, England, and I know she travelled back to England on at least one occasion (~1955) to visit family.

I am in contact with descendents of several of Leah’s brothers and sisters, so it would be good to complete the picture by making contact with any descendents of Leah and Harry.

I appreciate the Smith is not an unusual name (!) , and I know there was at least one other family in Hay in the early 1900s with a ‘Harry’ Smith, so I realise that this is a longshot, but hey! …. nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Hi I am trying to find out more information regarding my grandfather's (George Thomas Smith) family. All I know is that his father was John Henry Smith and his mothers name was Margaret (nee unknown). George was born in NSW Australia (I think) approx 1897 and he died as the result of a motor vehicle accident in 1954 at Hay NSW. He married Emily May Moorhead and they had 6 children - three boys and three girls. If anyone has information that might help me track down John Henry it would be appreciated.
