Trying to find Baker

My Great Grandmother Clara Baker was the daughter of John and Lucy Baker (nee Freer). She was born in Leicestershire about 1865. She married William Henry Wheatley in January 1883 in the Registry Office in Leicester, their daughter Elsie (my Grandmother) was born in August 1883. The family story is that she left for New Zealand with a man who was 'not her husband'. She left my Grandmother behind who was brought up by Edward Baker who had a haberdashery shop in Wilford Street, Nottingham. On the 1891 census my grandmother was living with Edward and Eliza Baker. Edward seems to have brought Clara up, he is named on her marriage certificate as her father. I am unsure of the actual relationship. Maybe her father's brother? I am trying to find out what happened to Clara, I remember my Grandmother having letters up to 1959 with New Zealand stamps on them. My Grandmother gave no information about her mother. Clara would have been about 95 in 1959. What happened to her after she left England? Did she have more children in NZ. When did she die? Any help would be very much appreciated.
