Valerie Pike My father, Known as ARTHUR HENRY JONES, said that he was born on 10.08 1887 in Notting Hill, Middlesex to HENRY and ELIZABETH Jones. I have been unable to find his birth certificate, therefore unable to find his mother's maiden name. He ran away from home to join the Army, which angered his father. He signed on as a regular soldier with the Royal Sussex Regiment in October 1903 at Chichester. Although he gave his parents' names as next of kin he was reluctant to give their address, so it is recorded as 'Not Known'. He was lodging in Brighton at that time. I think he was their only son as there was always a reference to my father being 'the last of his line'. There was mention of a sister. Can anyone help, please? |
