I am looking for relatives of Elizabeth Emily Magor, born Cornwall 1849. She is the daughter of Reuben Magor and Mary Phillips and she married (1874, Australia) William Henry Smith. I am Elizabeth's great, great grand daughter. Regards, Lynne

Hello Lynn, I have a Hannah Magor, b. 4 Jan 1858 Ballarat. Died 4 Jan 1954 married John Ayers Lines (my relative) originally of Chipping Warden, Northamptonshire, England. Emigrated to Australia. They married Sept 1881 Port Pirie, S.A.

I was trying to find her among your people from Cornwall (where I used to live) and found Reuben/Ruben Magor b. 1799 Gwennap, Cornwall, d. 11 Mar 1898 Moonta, S. Aust. Married Mary, b. 1803, Gwennap, d. 1917. They had several children, including Ruben 1833, Gwennap, Grace b. 1827 St. Day, Cornwall and Richard b. 1830 St. Day. So the whole family packed up and emigrated.

I found Elizabeth Emily Magor, b. Cornwall (no doubt Gwennap or St. Day) 1849, marrying William Smith in 1874 Fitzroy, Victoria. Her parents are shown as Reuben Magor and Mary Phillips. Don't you think this is the same family? Cornwall famous then for mining of course. Do you think she is a sister of Reuben, b. 1833?

Ruben, the son, born 1833 married twice. First to Elizabeth Kemp b. c1833 England (in Gwennap I would say) marrying c1851. She died 1867, probably Port Gawler as their last children born there. Elizabeth b. c1851 Gwennap, John Kemp Magor b. c1853 Gwennap, Reuben Magor b. 19 Apr 1858 Pt. Gawler, S. Aust. d. 11 Jan 1862, another child, unavailable, then another Reuben b. 19 Oct. 1864 Pt. Gawler, died 1865. Then wife Elizabeth dies 1867.

He then marries Elizabeth Vinard b. c1841 Tywardreath, , Cornwall, m. 6 Oct 1868 in Port Gawler, S. Australia. She died 17 Sept 1876 in Moonta Mines, burial 19 Sep Moonta. I don't know about any children.

However, I still don't find my Hannah Magor! I have a photo of her in Australia, also her husband, John Ayers Lines. Do you know anything of her? I am sure they're all from Cornwall originally. If you want to write direct my email is [email protected]. I now live in California and assume you're in Australia.

I found all this on the IGI by the way.

Kind regards,
Margaret Castell

I am a member of Genes R. of course.
