Hi We're trying to find further informatin on my husband's family. His father was Alfred Edward Cooper born in Mile End in 1907. We think his brothers and sisters were May, Emmy and David. We've been led to believe that his grandfather Joseph Cooper (born in Deptford/Greenwich late 1881) died on the Lusitania. Joseph was married to an Alice? Payne in 1902. After Joseph's death Alice is believed to have married again to a man named Bill (surname unknown) who may have been from around Sevenoakes in Kent. We would love to know who Bill was and if Alice had any more children. We think Joseph's father was an Alfred Cooper, born in Hackney around 1852. He married Emily Gladwin in Stepney in 1874 and had at least six children - Alfred, William, Elbert, Joseph, George and Emily. The two oldest boys were apparently born in Gibraltar leading us to think that Alfred may have been in the army or navy. In the 1891 Census the family were living at 132 Graham Road, Hackney but we can find no trace in the 1901 census for London so they may have left the capital. We can also find no trace in the 1871 census and wonder if he may have been abroad with the forces at this time. We are keen to discover their descendents and any information on Alfred's parents or borthers and sisters. Do any of these people play a part in your family tree and can you fill in the blanks in ours? Thanks Dennis and Angela Cooper |
